The Climate and Sustainable Development Network (CSDevNet), in collaboration with Abdulkadir Kure University, Community Development and Climate Care (CDCC), and Green Tech Hub, commemorated World Environment Day 2026 through a series of awareness activities held during the University’s Matriculation Ceremony in Minna, Niger State.

As part of the celebration, newly admitted students led an environmental awareness campaign aimed at promoting environmental stewardship, climate action, and sustainable practices among members of the university community.

The campaign served as a platform to sensitize students and stakeholders on the importance of protecting the environment and embracing sustainable lifestyles in line with this year’s World Environment Day theme.

Speaking during the event, the Vice-Chancellor of Abdulkadir Kure University, Professor Mohammed Aliyu Paiko, commended the visionary leadership and commitment of the Executive Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umar Bago, for championing the Green Economy Initiative and positioning the University as a key academic and research hub supporting the state’s green development agenda.

“The Green Economy Initiative of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago is creating a new pathway for sustainable development in Niger State. As a university, we are proud to serve as an academic hub for this transformative vision by nurturing the knowledge, innovation, and human capacity required to build a greener and more resilient future,” Professor Paiko stated.

The Vice-Chancellor also expressed appreciation to CSDevNet, Community Development and Climate Care, and Green Tech Hub for their continued partnership and contributions toward advancing environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and green development initiatives within the University and across Niger State.

“We value the strong partnership we have built with CSDevNet and other stakeholders who continue to support our efforts in promoting environmental awareness, climate action, and sustainable development. Together, we are empowering young people to become responsible environmental stewards and agents of positive change,” he added.

The World Environment Day commemoration reflects the shared commitment of the partner organizations to fostering environmental awareness, empowering young people as climate champions, and promoting collaborative action towards a more sustainable future.

Through strategic partnerships, awareness campaigns, and capacity-building initiatives, CSDevNet remains committed to advancing climate action and sustainable development while supporting institutions and communities to build resilience and contribute to a greener future for all.
