Community Development and Climate Care (CDCC), in partnership with Climate & Sustainable Development Network (CSDevNet), Abdulkadir Kure University, and African Activist for Climate Justice (AACJ), celebrated World Forest Day on March 21, 2025.
The event took place at the Green Tech Hub and ACReSal Nursery in Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna, Niger State. Over 52 students, university staff, and media representatives attended to learn about the role of forests and tree nurseries in addressing climate change.
In his remarks, Prof. Gudugi, representing the Vice Chancellor of Abdulkadir Kure University, emphasized the need for collective action in environmental conservation. He encouraged students to take part in climate action and biodiversity protection, highlighting the role of young people in sustainable development.

The program aimed to educate students on the importance of forests and provide practical training on tree nursery management.
The indoor session featured expert presentations on the environmental, economic, and social benefits of forests. A question-and-answer session allowed students to interact with experts and gain deeper insights into afforestation, reforestation, and sustainable forest management.
The outdoor session at ACReSal Nursery provided hands-on experience in tree nursery establishment. Facilitators guided students through seed selection, planting, watering, and maintenance, giving them practical skills in sustainable tree cultivation.
The event successfully raised awareness about forest conservation and inspired students to become advocates for environmental sustainability. To build on this momentum, recommendations were made to establish student-led environmental clubs, organize regular training on nursery management, and strengthen partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and private organizations.
The World Forest Day celebration at Abdulkadir Kure University showed that education and practical learning can empower young people to contribute meaningfully to climate action and environmental sustainability.
